CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY

Cranial Osteopaths are trained to feel a very subtle rhythmic movement
that is present throughout the body.
This is known as the Cranial Rhythm or involuntary motion.

The skull is made up of 26 bones which are intricately joined
in such a way that during the rhythmical cycle of involuntary motion,
the skull actually changes shape to accommodate the movement of fluids inside the head.
Impacts or pressures on the head can disrupt or block this flow of movement.
This can lead to very wide variety of problems in the head and throughout the body.

By feeling the involuntary motion throughout the body
an osteopath can feel whether a person is in an optimum health
or whether there is something preventing the free, healthy movement of tissues.

Treatment is very gentle and often people feel nothing at all.
Other people may feel sensations of pressure or warmth
while others just become increasingly relaxed or sleepy.

 Osteopathy For Babies

It is common belief that babies and children should have no physical stresses
or strains in their little bodies because they are so young.
The reality can be very different.
Birth is one of the most stressful events of our lives.
The baby is subjected to enormous forces as the womb contracts
to deliver the baby against the natural resistance of the birth canal.
As a result many babies are born with odd shaped heads,
especially if there has been forceps or ventouse intervention to aid delivery.

Normally this moulding releases over the first few days of life
as the baby breathes, cries and suckles.
If the birth is difficult, particularly long or indeed very quick
the baby may be unable to completely resolve the stresses held within its body.
Osteopathic treatment using the cranial approach is very gentle,
safe and effective in the treatment of babies.
Gentle pressures are applied to help the body to release the stresses held within it.

 Osteopathy For Children

As the child grows older, problems may become apparent
which may have arisen due to earlier strains,
trauma (falls or knocks to the head) or indeed retained moulding.
As children grow older the body frame undergoes a number of changes.
Not only do the bones and muscles of the body grow and adapt
but so do the bones of the head and face.
Growing pains may result from very rapid growth spurt or increasing sporting activity.
By analyzing, treating and managing the problems associated with growth
it is possible to help children become and stay fit and healthy.

Osteopathy is a safe and natural approach to healthcare for all life stages.
Osteopaths are able to treat babies and children for complaints
attributable to mechanical strains acquired during birth,
growth and the activities associated with childhood.
