Osteopathy For Babies

It is common belief that babies and children should have no physical stresses or strains in their little bodies because they are so young. The reality can be very different.

Birth is one of the most stressful events of our lives. The baby is subjected to enormous forces as the womb contracts to deliver the baby against the natural resistance of the birth canal.

As a result many babies are born with odd shaped heads, especially if there has been forceps or ventouse intervention to aid delivery. Normally this moulding releases over the first few days of life as the baby breathes, cries and suckles.

If the birth is difficult, particularly long or indeed very quick the baby may be unable to completely resolve the stresses held within its body. Osteopathic treatment using the cranial approach is very gentle, safe and effective in the treatment of babies. Gentle pressures are applied to help the body to release the stresses held within it.
